What is therapy? Healing and processing one's wounds

I have listed some possible ideas and thoughts to consider as you begin this journey with a therapist.

  • Healing is a daily process and takes time and effort.

  • Trust the process.

  •  Sometimes therapy is emotionally challenging but is temporary and brings about growth for the long term.

  • Research says optimism and positive beliefs are key ingredients to improvement in well-being.

  • Stepping into the unknown is often frightening and resistant forming because of homeostatic conditioning.

  • Healing is not linear but circular and sometimes spontaneously dipping down then suddenly shooting upwards.

  • Healing is a practice that is an acquired skill.

  • A conscious effort is required to all your coping activities to be most effective.

  • Reconditioning your old patterns of behaviors to new ones takes time, so being patient is key.

  • Just showing up is in itself half the work.
